TestosterICs: A Low-Cost Functional Chip Tester

Students in VLSI design courses find the opportunity to fabricate their chip designs very exciting and motivational. However, testing the chips after fabrication can be a hassle for both students and faculty. In collaboration with Sun Microsystems Laboratories, we have developed a functional chip tester that applies test vectors at low speed to check logical operation. The tester supports packa...

From Playroom to Lab: Tough Stretchable Electronics Analyzed with a Tabletop Tensile Tester Made from Toy‐Bricks

Toy bricks are an ideal platform for the cost-effective rapid prototyping of a tabletop tensile tester with measurement accuracy on par with expensive, commercially available laboratory equipment. Here, a tester is presented that is not only a versatile demonstration device in mechanics, electronics, and physics education and an eye-catcher on exhibitions, but also a powerful tool for stretchab...

A nano-tensile tester for creep studies

Free-standing metallic thin films are increasingly used as structural components in MEMS. In commercial devices, long-term reliability is essential, which requires determining time-dependent mechanical properties of these films. The uniaxial tensile test is a preferred method due to uncomplicated determination of the stress and strain state. However, at the MEMS-scale this method is not straigh...

a low-cost method for optical tomography

introduction: in this study, arrangement of a low-cost optical tomography device compared to other methods such as frequency domain diffuse tomography or time domain diffuse tomography is reported. this low-cost diffuse optical imaging technique is based on the detection of light after propagation in tissue. these detected signals are applied to predict the location of in-homogeneities inside p...
